Men and the Power of a Good Massage

Sometimes the benefit is simply giving yourself space to stop.

There was a time when plenty of men saw massage as something that was not really for them. That has changed. Men now book massage for all sorts of reasons — sore muscles, physical work, training, tension, relaxation, or simply because an hour without the phone going off feels pretty good.

At Core Benefits, massage does not need to be dressed up as something complicated. The starting point is what is happening in your body and what you want from the session.

Stress can show up physically

Long workdays, training, poor sleep and the normal pressures of life can leave you feeling wound up. Shoulders creep upwards. Your jaw tightens. Your body feels restless even when you finally sit down.

Massage can provide a period of relaxation and may reduce perceived stress or anxiety for some people. That does not make massage a treatment for a mental-health condition, but it can give you a structured hour where nothing is expected of you.

Sometimes that alone is valuable.

Soreness, tightness and physical recovery

If you train, play sport or work physically, massage may help reduce the feeling of muscle soreness and tension. Depending on what you need, sports massage or remedial massage can focus more specifically on areas that feel overloaded or uncomfortable. In some cases, dry needling may also be used as part of a treatment plan when it suits the problem and the client.

Massage is not a guarantee against injury and it does not magically repair every problem. Its role can be much more practical: helping you feel more comfortable, move more freely and giving your body some recovery time.

Relaxation does not need to be earned

You do not have to be injured, stressed to breaking point or training for something to justify having a massage.

A relaxation massage can simply be something you choose because you enjoy how you feel afterwards. For some men, learning to stop for an hour is harder than any gym session.

You also do not have to prove anything

The old idea that looking after yourself somehow makes you less masculine has never made much sense to me. Neither does telling a man to “man up” before he looks after himself.

At Core Benefits, you do not need permission from anyone else. You can ask questions, choose the style of massage that suits you, decide how much conversation you want during the treatment, and say what feels comfortable.

What makes a fantastic massage?

It is not necessarily the hardest pressure or the most complicated technique. A good massage is one that matches what you came in for.

That might mean focused work on tired muscles. It might mean a slower Lomi Lomi inspired massage. It might simply mean quiet, warmth and an hour where you can switch off.

There is no single version that every man should want.

Start with what you need

Core Benefits has been working with men in Toowoomba since 2003. Over that time, one thing has remained consistent: men are often more comfortable once they realise they can simply say what they want, what they do not want, and what they are unsure about.
